Writer J.R.R. Tolkien has revolutionized the world of epic high-fantasy novel series. The Lord of The Rings, is, up to this day, one of the bestselling fantasy novels of all time, with more than 150 million copies sold worldwide. It’s easy to understand why this amazing author deserved a day to celebrate its masterpiece fantasy novels. So yes, to all you J.R.R. Tolkien fans our there, today we’re celebrating Tolkien Reading Day. The big question is: what are you going to read from his books today?

This event has been celebrated every year since 2003, as a form of appreciation for J.R.R. Tolkien's outstanding novels from his fans worldwide. So why March 25th? Well, this day marks the downfall of Sauron, the actual Lord of the Rings and the fall of Barad-dûr. This initiative pertains to Sean Kirst, a local Syracuse, NY paper columnist, who advanced the idea in 2002, in one of his articles posted in The Post-Standard. Ever since the world celebrates Tolkien Reading Day.

How to Observe This Day

Today is all about reading and discussing your favorite works from J.R.R. Tolkien with other fans or through social media. Exchange ideas with other fans, use hashtags and fall in love with Tolkien’s works once again.
